Adding A Blink Mini Camera

After you have created an account via the Blink app, one of the first things that you should do is to to add your new Blink Mini to the app.

I have created a video showing you how to do this in the Blink app but if you prefer to read step by step instructions then follow along with me.

Once you’ve opened the Blink app, tap on the blue “+” button in the top right hand side.

Tap on the image of a Mini Camera.

The camera on your phone is switched on and now you can use it to “capture” the QR code on the Blink Mini.

The code can be found at the back of the camera recessed in a circle. It is above the serial number.

Hold your phone about 6″- 8 inches away from the back of the camera and make sure that there is enough light- if the environment is too dark your camera will struggle to capture the code.

If your phone successfully captures the QR code you will be taken to the system page within the Blink app. Here you can either add it to an existing system or create a new system for it.

If this is your first camera select “create new system” before giving your system a name.

Click on the blue continue button at the bottom of the screen and you will be taken to the discover device page.

Pick up your Blink Mini and follow the instructions on screen about pressing the reset button.

The lights on the front of your Mini Camera should be a steady green and a blinking blue.

A “searching for device” dialogue box appears at the bottom of the app and after a few seconds it is replaced by a request to “connect to device” by creating a temporary WiFi network. A connecting to device dialogue box appears which is replaced by a screen where you need to connect your camera to your Wi-Fi network.

Select your network and type in your password. Tap on the blue button at the bottom of the screen which says “join”.

After 30 seconds or so a green tick appears on the page as your camera has been successfully added.

Tap on the blue button labelled done and you will be taken to the app’s homepage where there should be a thumbnail of the camera that you have just added.

Why won’t my Blink Mini connect?

Most of us will successfully connect our Blink Mini to the Blink app and our Wi-Fi by using the QR code.

If you don’t succeed, you will stay on the same page with the camera app still running.

There are a few reasons that you might have problems scanning the QR code. Firstly, it could be that you have placed your camera in an area where there is little or no natural light or that you are trying to do this at night. Your camera needs enough light for the lens to work properly. Reposition the camera in an area with more natural light or turn a light on in the room. Try and scan the QR code again.

The second problem that might be stopping you the QR code from being detected is that there is something wrong with the camera in your phone- perhaps the lens is cracked or broken and so it can’t focus on the QR code in order to read it.

Thirdly, it could be that when the camera app opens ready to capture the QR code, the app shuts down. This might be caused by your phone having too little battery power. The camera needs quite a bit of battery power to make it work and it might just be that you need to stick your phone on charge for a bit.

Don’t panic as there’s another way to pair your Blink Mini to the app and you can do this by tapping on the blue Enter Serial Number button at the bottom of the screen.

This is a great option if you know where to find the serial number on your screen- it is at the back of the camera under the QR code.

It doesn’t help you if you don’t know where to find the serial number. If that’s the case then look for the link beneath the blue button which states “find QR code.”
